Former PPS Rajanah Dhaliah has been arrested by the Icac this Thursday as part of the investigation into allegations of bribery over a lease for land in the Grand-Bassin region. He was arrested under section 10 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PoCa).
Rajanah Dhaliah is now before Port-Louis court for provisional indictment.
This case emerged in March 2023 following the Icac investigation into Jean Hubert Celerine, alias Franklin. The venue in question was a popular place for Jean Hubert Celerine to organise parties, particularly raves.
Rajanah Dhaliah has been summoned three times by the anti-corruption commission to provide explanations. The first summons was issued at the beginning of August, but the meeting was adjourned due to health problems cited by the elected official. Two other summonses were also postponed, but the Supreme Court rejected Rajanah Dhaliah’s objection to the Icac summons.
During the MSM’s central meeting on Saturday 26 August, the matter was raised by the Prime Minister and two days later, a new summons was sent to Rajanah Dhaliah, who has meanwhile resigned as PPS.
