Foreign Minister Alan Ganoo Says He Cannot Interfere In Maldives Affairs

Must Read

Foreign Minister Alan Ganoo reacted to the alleged $500 million bribe case (about Rs 22.5 billion) involving the Maldives and Mauritius. The case relates to the Maldives’ vote in favour of Mauritius on the Chagos issue before the Tribunal of the Sea. He said that he read on the subject in the news, like everyone else. However, Minister Alan Ganoo added that he cannot interfere in Maldivian affairs. He said he is waiting for copies of the debates in the Maldivian parliament before commenting further on the case. Alan Ganoo made these comments in response to a question from the press at the opening of the Indian Ocean Drug Abuse Conference held on Wednesday morning at the Sir Harilal Vaghjee Hall in Port Louis. The Maldivian opposition leader is accusing his President of taking a bribe. The case is the subject of a motion in the Maldivian Parliament and a letter to this effect has been sent to the Chief Justice of the Maldives.
