Financial Services Sector: Mauritius Finance Scholarship Awarded To 30 Young Recipients

A total of 30 Higher School Certificate (HSC) leavers were awarded, last week, the Mauritius Finance Scholarship Scheme 2023, at the FSC House in Ebène. The Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, the Chaiperson of the Mauritius Finance, Mrs Shamima Mallam-Hassam, and other personalities were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Seeruttun extended congratulations to the 30 scholarship recipients while highlighting that it acknowledges their hard work and the support of their families and teachers who have been indispensable guides on this learning journey.

The Minister dwelt on the need to ensure that there is always an adequate talent pool to replace those who are leaving in order to service clients. “It is our mission and our responsibility to ensure that competence is sufficient enough to service our markets” and “this scholarship project will help in addressing the skills we require in fund administration and accounting”, he said.

In a bid to encourage the youth to move forward in their academic and professional careers, Minister Seeruttun called upon them to give back to the communities and to support future generations. He expressed optimism that as leaders of tomorrow, the youth will make a positive impact to the sector and to the economy.

Mr Seeruttun also spoke of the Ministry’s endeavour to ensure that the Financial Services Institute soon transitions to Awarding Body.  The strong and converging relationship between the Government and the private sector was also highlighted by the Minister.

As for the Chairperson of the Mauritius Finance, she stressed on the importance for capacity building programmes while indicating that the scholarship scheme aims at supporting talented, dynamic and rigorous people to join the sector. Mrs Mallam-Hassam called upon the youth to tap into the numerous job opportunities of the sector.

Mauritius Finance Scholarship Scheme 2023

The Mauritius Finance Scholarship Scheme 2023 targeting HSC leavers or any equivalent qualification, aims at providing access to equal opportunities within the financial services sector and to build capacity within the industry.

The scholarship project is of six months duration whereby the recipient will follow a Certificate course while being simultaneously on a placement. The course dispensed through online structured learning will be a Certificate in Fund Administration and Accounting delivered by the CLT International in collaboration with the Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester.
