The lowest minimum temperature was recorded early this morning to the northwest of the island and over the Centre in the region of Forest Side and Curepipe, with an all-time record of 8.0 degrees Celsius at Ferret (near Mapou).
All time record minimum temperatures were also registered at Pamplemousses, Mon Loisir Sugar Estate and Mon Bois.
With the retreat of the anticyclone that influenced the local weather last week, a light wind regime settled down over the Mascarenes.
The temperature recorded overnight until this morning dropped by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the island. A few stations even recorded a drop in temperature of greater than 7 degrees Celsius.
July and August are the peak winter months. The temperature is usually cooler and at times drops to below seasonal mean when the Mascarenes are under the influence of a cold airmass.
The minimum temperature in August usually varies between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius over the high grounds and 18 and 21 degrees Celsius along the coast.
