Euro 2020: Group D – Scotland Eliminated, England Qualifies At Top

Must Read

Three out of four nations in Group D will play in the round of 16 of the Euro. After their victory against the Czech Republic (0-1), England finished first in their pool with seven points to their credit. Follow the Croats, victorious 3-1 over Scotland on Monday night. As for the Czechs, they are sure to finish among the best third with 4 points, the same total as the Croats.

Thus, without achieving a great performance, England still dominated the Czech Republic (1-0) on Tuesday during the 3rd day of group D.

This victory thanks to a quick goal from Raheem Sterling, the Three Lions very clearly managed the debates. From the first seconds, the English were on the verge of opening the scoring, but Sterling’s lob ended on the post of Vaclik! Under pressure, the Czechs suffered the waves and cracked with a cross from Grealish placed on the head of Sterling, who scored from close range (0-1, 11th). After this goal, Jaroslav Silhavy’s men tried to react, but found it difficult to approach Pickford’s goal. Conversely, the Three Lions remained sharp and Vaclik had to pull out all the stops to prevent Kane from making the break. On several balls in the English area, the Czechs still gave a few cold sweats to the public at Wembley with a shot from Soucek which grazed the Pickford post.

The England winger continues to be decisive on this Euro. Already a scorer against Croatia (1-0), the Manchester City player was remarkably close to opening the scoring from the start of the game with a lob which found the opposing post. In the process, he took advantage of a cross from Grealish to score with a header. And thereafter, although he was not successful in all his attempts, the Englishman realized many differences and created danger. Substituted in the 66th minute by Marcus Rashford.

Callum McGregor explains Scotland’s elimination.

Scotland are beaten by Croatia (1-3) on Tuesday at home in Glasgow. Dominated by the Czech Republic (0-2) from their entry into the competition, the Tartan Army will be proud to have stood up to their English neighbor (0-0) at Wembley in the second match. Scotland is therefore eliminated.

Despite their efforts and courage, the Scots finished with a small point on the clock and midfielder Callum McGregor (28 years old, 34 caps and 1 goal) believes that his selection has above all paid for his lack of efficiency.  “We have to take this disappointment and learn as much as possible from it. It’s to our credit, we create opportunities for ourselves. The difference here is probably to be ruthless enough to put them to the bottom. When you are in a strong moment, you have to try to capitalize, and we have never done it in the three games, “regretted the member of Celtic Glasgow, whose equalizing goal had given hope against the Croats.
