Far from being a chore, year-end cleaning is a must for many Mauritian families. And as surprising as it may seem, young people are also doing it without flinching.
Wesley Meunier – 25 years old – is the youngest of a family of two children and is the head of operations at this time. For him, it’s a habit since he was 17 years old: “The end of year chores I like to do since I was 17. Since my parents are old, I prefer to take care of them to spare them a little.
In the young man’s home in Bambous, the famous silverware shines as well as the windows and doors: “The glasses and other utensils that adorn the silverware have been carefully washed. At the Jootun’s house in Grand Gaube, Nishta – 28 years old – is cleaning the house from top to bottom: “I have been cleaning the house for a few weeks now. At the moment, we have already changed the curtains and all the major cleaning has been completed. The only thing left to clean is the bathroom.
