Electricity Tariffs Will Be More Expensive As From 01 February 2023

Must Read

The increase will vary in the range of 19% to 29%, depending on the category of consumers but will not be “across the board“. While domestic consumption concerns 410, 031 residential customers, 85% of them will be exempted as they consume less than 300 units. A different tariff schedule is being applied for commercial energy use. The Utility Regulatory Authority approved this request for tariff revision on Thursday, 15 December, and this announcement was made by the Minister in charge, Joe Lesjongard, in press on Friday afternoon, 16 December.  To justify this increase, the minister pointed out that the Central Electricity Board had suffered a deficit of Rs 2.5 billion in 4 months, and further mentioned that the energy sector has been hit hard by Covid and the war in Ukraine.
