A 45-year-old police officer, assigned to the Eel River police station, was involved in a road accident on Sunday evening, 20 November. The officer, who lives in Suriname, was scheduled to work the second shift between 3pm and 11.15pm that day but reported sick. The officer was given a breath test, which was positive.
It was around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday evening, November 20, that the Chemin Grenier police station received a request for an accident on Route Royale in Beau Champ, not far from the Sofitel Hotel. His grey Mazda car collided with a white Isuzu 4WD driven by a 46-year-old Surinamese. Both vehicles were seriously damaged, but both drivers were not injured.
Both drivers were taken to the Chemin Grenier police station for breathalyser tests by officers from the Emergency Response Service. The officer, a 21-year veteran of the force, tested positive.
