Drunk Driving: Russian Driver Receives Two Fines

Sergei Logunov, a 31-year-old Russian national, was fined twice by the Souillac court on Friday February 9. The two offenses committed by this Russian were reckless driving and drunk driving. He was fined Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The man was found drunk on Riambel beach and his car seriously damaged in the lagoon. He was given an alcohol test, which came back positive. He had sixty-three micrograms of alcohol in his breath.

The case was investigated by Inspector Putchay of the Bel Ombre police station under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent Baureck. At around 10.50 pm on Thursday evening, February 8, the Bel Ombre police station was called to an accident on the Route Côtière in La Prairie. A damaged Nissan gray car was found in the lagoon.

The driver, Sergei Logunov, an airline steward staying at the Tamassa Hotel, was lying on the beach, complaining of pain all over his body. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service, after the injured man had been examined on the spot, transported him to Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose Belle for further treatment.

Safe City camera footage showed the victim at the designated beer spot. After his medical examination, he was admitted to the ward before undergoing a breathalyzer test. This proved positive. The Russian national had sixty-three micrograms of alcohol in his breath.
