Just seven days after having his suspension from the National Assembly frozen, Dr Arvin Boolell has initiated action to challenge that decision in the Supreme Court. He served a plaint with a summons to the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister, and the Clerk of the National Assembly. The State, through the Attorney General, is named as a “third party” in the case. In the notice, which is the first step in the action, Arvin Boolell is seeking, among other things, an order from the Supreme Court that his suspension is in violation of several sections of the Constitution and that the suspension be declared null and void. The case will be called on 18 May.
