Dominique Sedeeal, aka Darren The Activist, has been granted bail. The police suspected him of having participated in a rally of Rasta people who were on hunger strike. He was therefore arrested because one of the conditions of his previous parole was that he should not take part in any demonstrations. He remained in detention for several days. And this Wednesday, when he appeared in court in Port Louis, the representative of the DPP’s office said that he had no objection to the activist’s release. As a result, Darren was released on bail of Rs 3,000, an IOU of Rs 25,000 and the payment of Rs 1,150, which represents administrative costs.
Mr. Veer Beeltah, Darren Activist’s attorney, commended the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for this decision and maintains that his client was at that location as a “Freelance Reporter” and did not at any time participate in this demonstration.
