Dadi Jassoh Celebrates Her 100th Birthday

Mrs Jassoh Babna, also known as “Dadi Jassoh” celebrated her 100th birthday, on 26 November 2022, together with her family members at the Social Welfare Centre in Mare Tabac.

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, along with the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, graced the event.

The dignitaries remitted various gifts to the new Centenarian. She received from the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity a cheque amounting to Rs 26, 203, a flower bouquet, a centenarian medal along with a certificate and a Cookware Set. A present was offered by the Senior Citizens Council as well as a cash gift of Rs 10,000 by the National Solidarity Fund.

The centenarian originated from the village of Creve Coeur in Montagne Longue. Her father, Mr Bheekhoo Ramnyhoi, and her mother, Mrs Kerramuth Dunmania, were working as labourers. They had three daughters and one son. Mrs Babna has never been to school.

The centenarian was religiously married to Mr Jagdeo Babna at the age of 12 and she subsequently got civilly married in 1961. Her husband was working as lumberjack. The couple had five children, four sons and one daughter. Two of her sons already passed away. She has 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mrs Babna is ambulant and enjoys all her faculties though to a lesser extent due to old age and has no major health problems. She attributes her longevity to her unconditional faith in the Almighty.
