On Wednesday, the Confederation of Public and Private Sector Workers (CTSP) celebrated the International Day for Decent Work in Rose-Hill. It was an opportunity for the president and secretary general of the CTSP, Reaz Chuttoo and Jane Raggoo to make a series of demands that they addressed to the government.
Among them, the right of workers in the private sector to have the right to a ‘Special leave’ for Covid-19, the elimination of the monthly contract for workers in the construction industry, the introduction of regulations on the installation of surveillance cameras on the work site, the publication of the report of the Pay Research Bureau (PRB) as well as the report on wage relativity following the introduction of the minimum wage, the priority to the recruitment of Mauritian workers in the construction sector are among them.
Reaz Chuttoo also said that there are Chinese companies, which recruit Nepalese workers in Mauritius and this situation is not tolerable. “Si bizin fer chinois galoupe depi Maurice, nou pour fer li,” he said.
CTSP secretary Jane Ragoo is asking the Ministry of Gender Equality to regularize the situation of about 15 workers who give training courses to women in community centres.
