The weekly event of the Citizen Support Unit (CSU), aiming to provide greater proximity with citizens to address their requests and complaints, was held, on Saturday, at the Riche Terre Mall. The focus was on the digitalisation of the Civil Status Office and how the Equal Opportunities Commission deals with cases of alleged discrimination.
The Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Mr Georges Pierre Lesjongard, the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mr Sharvanand Ramkaun, Members of Parliament, Mrs Subhashnee Luchmun-Roy and Mrs Joanne Tour, and other personalities were present.
Several stakeholders were also present: Financial Services Commission, Development Bank of Mauritius, Human Resource Development Council, Polytechnic Mauritius, Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Equal Opportunities Commission, Civil Status Division and National Drug Secretariat.
It is to be noted that the Mobile Application LESPWAR, was launched in 2020 to raise more awareness on Gender Based Violence issues which are matters of national concern. The Application is proving itself at national level and it is paving its way internationally too. It is an initiative of the High-Level Committee on the Elimination of Gender Based Violence, chaired by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.
The CSU was set up in 2017 to maximise proximity with the population and to enable citizens to directly transmit their requests, share their concerns and ideas with ministries, departments, parastatals and local authorities through Citizens Advice Bureau.
