The Prime Minister yesterday informed the population of new restrictive measures to limit the spread of the virus. Father Jean Maurice Labour, administrator of the Diocese of Port-Louis in the absence of the bishop, communicates the instructions to be observed from this November 12 and this, until new directives from the State:

Masses

In accordance with the first paragraph of the communiqué of the authorities which stipulates “Gatherings and meetings (public and private): a maximum of 50 people”, Masses – Sunday and weekday – will be able to accommodate a maximum of 50 people. Parishioners are invited to register with the parish office to attend a Mass.

Weddings and funerals

In accordance with the second paragraph of the governmental communiqué, 50 people will be admitted to weddings and funerals in the churches. It is the responsibility of the family of the persons concerned to inform the local police.

Confirmations and Baptisms

The same measures apply for the celebration of confirmations and baptisms.

Other provisions:

In accordance with paragraph 5, a maximum of 10 people will be admitted to the caves, Father Laval’s vault, etc.

The parish catechesis sessions for children have been suspended, in line with what has been decided for the schools.

Parishes have been asked to ensure that health security measures are applied (taking temperatures, wearing masks, sanitizing at the entrance, social distancing) during celebrations.

As a reminder, Cardinal Piat is on a mission abroad. He will be back on December 5th.
