Covid 19: Ivermectin Treatment, Not Aproved by WHO

Must Read

For a few days, ivermectin has been presented by some as an alternative to the Covid 19 vaccine, especially by those who are against the vaccine. They rely on a recent study conducted by the prestigious institution, Pasteur. According to this study, the effectiveness of this molecule has been demonstrated in hamsters to protect against the symptoms of Covid 19.  However, for the time being, the World Health Organization (WHO) advises against the use of this drug to counter Covid 19 for humans because no evidence of its effectiveness has been clinically proven.

Ivermectin is an antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory properties. It is used in the treatment of scabies.

When asked about this drug, a doctor from the public who wished to remain anonymous, stressed that this drug is used mainly by dermatologists. “I don’t think it will fight the Covid 19 virus.  It is like hydroxychloroquine, but for me, it does not replace the effectiveness of vaccines against Covid,” he said. He concedes, however, that in some hospitals in India, this drug is administered against the virus. “Apparently, it can improve the chances of success and recovery if a patient takes this drug at the first sign of illness. But the WHO has not given its approval for this treatment,” he says.

India listed ivermectin for the first time on April 28 as an official anti-Covid treatment for mild and asymptomatic forms. A decision to counter the recrudescence of the virus in the Great Peninsula, especially with the appearance of the Delta variant. A few weeks later, in May of this year, the number of daily infections decreased.  However, for some international specialists, this decrease has nothing to do with ivermectin, but rather thanks to the reinforcement of the barrier measures and the confinements decreed by the Indian authorities.
