The Ministry of Health recorded on Wednesday 11 August, 159 asymptomatic positive cases and two serious cases admitted to ENT Hospital in Vacoas. A few cases have been recorded among students.
Last in line, the GMD Atchia in Port Louis will remain closed this Thursday 12 August because of a case recorded on a student in Grade 12. A Grade 10 student at Dhunputh Lallah College was found positive, a positive case at Notre Dame de Lorette RCA and same at Daneswock Sewraz Government School in Triolet and Grand Baie Government School.
At Eden Girls College in Rose Hill, students were asked to go home on Wednesday morning after a case was found in a non-teaching staff. Notre Dame College in Curepipe will remain closed on Thursday as a precautionary measure after a Grade 9 student has been tested positive in her first test and the results of her second test have not yet been released to the school.
The Modern College in Flacq, on the other hand, will reopen on Monday 16th August, following a case among Grade 9 students.
Furthermore, since exams have been postponed and the 26 candidates from exam room 1.16 from where a positive case was registered, have been requested to proceed to home isolation, the students’ unions at the University of Mauritius suspect that there could be a whole cluster at UoM. The management remains tight-lipped about the recent cases detected among students.
To date, we have 0.39% of the population infected. 733,860 people are primo vaccinated and 588,372 people have received their two doses.
Two positive cases at Goodlands KFC were detected on Wednesday, August 11, both employees have been taken care of by the health department. All other KFC employees are in self-isolation pending PCR results. The KFC will be closed for complete decontamination on Thursday, August 12 and will be open to the public on Friday, August 13.
