Covid 19 : 361 Positive Cases And 2 Official Deaths

Cases of Covid 19 has increased this past week from 217 to 361 positive cases but one more death. This week’s Ministry of Health release reports the results of the sequencing of Covid 19 and Monkeypox variants.

The PCR tests confirmed 226 local cases compared to 136 new cases last week and 135 imported cases compared to 81 last week. The New ENT Hospital has registered 19 patients during the week, of which 1 is on oxygen and 18 are admitted to the general wards. The Vacoas treatment centre has also reported two deaths directly related to Covid 19.

Sequencing results- Omicron prevail

The Central Health Laboratory revealed the results of samples taken from 205 positive cases from 19 to 25 June. The sequencing results indicate that there are cases of Omicron, 7 of which are B.A. 1, 157 of which are B.A. 2, 1 of which is imported, 17 of which are B.A. 4, 21 of which are B.A. 5 and 3 of which are B.E. 1, which is not a variant of interest.

With regard to Monkeypox, the results received from WHO South Africa reveal that the two suspected cases were tested as negative.

Vaccination on rise

Vaccination is steadily increasing with 1,011,948 people having received their first dose and the rate of the second dose is 978,047. For Booster Dose I, 628,984 people have been inoculated, including 240,202 at Johnson & Johnson, 8,815 at Sinopharm, 2,825 at Astra Zeneca, 269,040 at Pfizer and 108,102 at Moderna. For Booster Dose II, 9,264 people were inoculated, including 9,415 at Pfizer, 175 at Moderna, 8 at Johnson & Johnson and 1 at Sinopharm. For the adolescent campaign, 75,633 received the first dose of Pfizer and 69,494 the second. For the pediatric dose, i.e. pupils aged 5 to 11 years, the Ministry announced a total of 12,290 children inoculated for the first dose and 5 for the second.

In Rodrigues, 74.98% of the population received the first dose, 72.20% the second and 15,556 the third.
