Covid 19 : 22 Fewer Cases And 2 Official Deaths

A slight decrease by 22 cases. Compared to the official figures of last Friday, the Ministry of Health announced that for this week, the number of positive cases via PCR tests has decreased from 238 to 216. The number of deaths is also down by 2. The case is very strong in Agaléga with 109 cases for the count of August 5, that is 49 cases more than last week.

46 admissions

The New ENT Hospital has 39 patients admitted this week, 7 less than last week.  4 are on ventilators and all are unvaccinated, 22 are admitted to the ward and 13 are on oxygen of which only 3 are fully vaccinated, 4 partially vaccinated and 6 unvaccinated. The 2 deaths, announced by the Vacoas treatment center, concern partially vaccinated patients over 60 years of age with comorbidities.

In Agalega, 105 are local cases and 4 are Indian nationals. These are Rapid Antigen test results.

As for Monkeypox, the PCR tests of the Central Health Laboratory did not reveal any suspect cases.

The results of the sequencing tests conducted by the Central Health Laboratory on 94 samples collected between 24 June and 14 July yielded a return of 75 positive results. The results show that BA.5 is the most present on our territory with 41 cases, followed by BE.1 with 13 cases, 12 cases of BA.4, 6 cases of BA.2, 1 of which was imported, and 3 cases of BE.9.

Vaccination progress

Vaccination continues to progress with 1,013,062 people having received their first dose and the rate for the second dose is 979,075. For Booster Dose I, 240,203 people were inoculated with Johnson & Johnson, 8,816 with Sinopharm, 2,825 with Astra Zeneca, 270,512 with Pfizer and 109,383 with Moderna. For Booster Dose II, 13,187 people were inoculated with Pfizer, 279 with Moderna, 9 with Johnson & Johnson and 1 with Sinopharm. For the adolescent campaign, 75,754 received the first dose of Pfizer and 69,728 the second dose. For the pediatric dose, i.e. pupils aged 5 to 11 years, the Ministry announced a total of 12,842 children inoculated for the first dose and 8,309 for the second.

In Rodrigues, 76.13% of the population received the first dose, 77.51% the second and 15,610 the third.
