Covid 19 : 209 Positive Cases And 1 Death

The Ministry of Health reported 100 fewer cases as compared to last week, i.e., 209 cases. Sequencing results from 29 May to 23 June show that we are more affected by BA.2 with 41 positive cases.

Positivity overview

PCR tests confirmed 209 cases in total as compared to 309 cases last week. New ENT Hospital has recorded 42 patients during the week, of which 2 patients with multiple comorbidities are on ventilator support and only 1 is fully vaccinated. 8 are on oxygen and have multiple comorbidities, of which only 2 are fully vaccinated. The New ENT Hospital reports 32 patients admitted to the General Wards. The Vacoas treatment centre also reported 1 death directly related to Covid 19. The patient was not vaccinated.

Sequencing results

The Omicron variant BA.2 affected Mauritians the most with 41 cases out of 118 samples collected from 29 May to 23 June. BA.4 affected 34 people, BA.5 31 people and BE1 12 people.

The Central Health Laboratory also reports inconclusive sequencing on 6 samples. No cases of Monkeypox have been detected.

Vaccination progressing

Vaccination continues to progress with 1,012,384 people having received their first dose and the rate of the second dose is 978,466. For Booster Dose I, 240,202 people were inoculated with Johnson & Johnson, 8,815 with Sinopharm, 2,825 with Astra Zeneca, 269,641 with Pfizer and 108,691 with Moderna. For Booster Dose II, 10,306 people were inoculated with Pfizer, 188 with Moderna, 8 with Johnson & Johnson and 1 with Sinopharm. For the adolescent campaign, 75,684 received the first dose of Pfizer and 69,584 the second dose. For the pediatric dose, i.e., pupils aged 5 to 11 years, the Ministry announced a total of 12,665 children inoculated for the first dose and 4,208 for the second.

In Rodrigues, 75.38% of the population received the first dose, 75.27% the second and 15,589 the third.
