Cop Sentenced To One Year Of Imprisonment For Corruption

Must Read

Magistrate Vijay Appadoo did not show any leniency to police sergeant, Jean Edouard Aristide. The 51-year-old policeman has been sentenced by the intermediate court to undergo one year of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000. Aristide had been prosecuted with a fellow policeman, but the latter got the benefit of the doubt.

The facts of the case related to a road accident where the driver was presumed intoxicated and that two officers, including sergeant Aristide, asked some Rs 6000 so as not to report the matter for further inquiry.

In the case of Mr Aristide, magistrate Vijay Appadoo found that the police sergeant reported the road accident because he was not given the bribe he requested from the driver.

The policeman had made his intention known that he would challenge his conviction and sentence on appeal.
