A raid by officers of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the Western Division at the office of Jess Logistrics Ltd at the KL Building in Fanfaron, Port-Louis on the evening of Tuesday, April 5, resulted in the seizure of Rs 15,195,000 worth of heroin, or 1013 grams. The seizure of this drug led to the arrest of the director of this company, Navin Ramkurrun, aged 47 and resident of Beau-Bassin, and the Customs Clerk, Dean Shane Nikhil Nobin and the forklift operator, Tirouven Vencatasamy. Both are 20 years old and residents of Le Hochet, Terre-Rouge.

It was after a lot of intelligence work and hours of surveillance that this ADSU team, led by Inspector Fowdar, mounted this operation. It was around 8 pm on Tuesday, April 5, when this raid was conducted at the office of Jess Logistics Ltd. at the KL Building in Fanfaron, Port-Louis. During this search, these police officers seized a transparent plastic containing a large quantity of heroin, an electronic scale used to weigh drugs, an access card in the name of Dean Shane Nikhil Nobin with a seal of the Mauritius Revenue Authority and a sum of Rs 52,825 suspected to come from the sale of drugs.

The ADSU officers also seized five cell phones that they suspect were used for communications and a key to the office of Jess Logistics Ltd. Two cars, suspected to have been used for this drug transaction, were taken to the ADSU headquarters at Central Barracks.

The three suspects were subjected to a first interrogation during the evening of Tuesday April 5. The director of Jess Logistics Ltd. reportedly suggested that he had picked up a package containing the drug.  He said he kept it in order to find customers to sell it.

After spending a first night in detention, the three suspects were brought before the court of Port-Louis this Wednesday morning, April 6. They were then taken back to the police cell.
