The 12th CJSOI games ended yesterday. Mauritius finished second overall with 46 gold medals while Reunion which took the first place collected 57. Seychelles finished third with 12 gold medals.
As often in the Indian Ocean Games, Reunion Island took advantage of its strength in swimming to collect the maximum number of medals. Moreover, it collected 20 gold medals in this discipline against 13 in Mauritius.
If Mauritius is used to outclassing Reunion in athletics, on the other hand, in Cote d’Or, Reunion did better than Mauritius with 18 gold medals against 17. This was also the case in weightlifting and table tennis where Reunion did better than Mauritius. The futsal was also a 100% Reunionese affair.
The disciplines where Mauritius has asserted itself are petanque and boxing.
Mayotte did not win any gold medals. Djibouti and Comoros did not leave empty-handed because they won two gold medals each.
