Chandra Prakashsing Dip Withdraws His Application To Appeal To Privy Council

Must Read

No need for an appeal to the Privy Council! This morning, in the Supreme Court, Chandra Prakashsing Dip withdrew his application for an appeal to the Privy Council. He had made this application in order to have a stay of execution so he could appeal directly to the Privy Council. However, as his conviction was commuted to a fine by the Commission for Prerogative of Mercy, a stay is no longer relevant. As a result, he informed the Supreme Court on Monday morning that he was withdrawing his application. Chandra Pakashsing Dip has promptly paid the fine of Rs 100,000 as imposed by the Commission for the Prerogative of Mercy.

To recall, he had been sentenced to 12 months in jail and had tried everything to overturn the conviction. But in vain! On Monday, Mr Gavin Glover, Chandra Prakashsing Dip’s lawyer, said his client was withdrawing the case.
