Challenge To Laurette’s Release: Case Adjourned To 29 May

Must Read

The motion of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Anil Kumar Dip, challenging the bail of Bruneau Laurette has been adjourned to May 29. The matter was called before Chief Justice Rehana Mungly-Gulbul in the Supreme Court on Monday morning, May 15. New affidavits will have to be filed.

The Commissioner of Police filed two motions following the release on bail of the social activist. In his first motion, the head of Line Barracks requests an extension of the legal time limit of seven days, which expired on Monday 6 March 2023, to challenge the conditional release granted to Bruneau Laurette.

The Police Commissioner’s second motion directly challenges Bruneau Laurette’s release on bail. The social activist was arrested on 4 November following the seizure of 40 kilos of hashish in his vehicle. He maintains his innocence and claims that the drugs were “planted” in the vehicle by members of the Special Striking Team.
