Budget 2022-2023: Padayachy Could Have Done Better – Say Some Mauritians

Must Read

The latest budget is good. However, some citizens believe that the big money man could have done better…

The budget has been on everyone’s lips since Renganaden Padayachy’s speech on June 7.

For Kim Mungly – a social worker – the budget is to be welcomed in the conjuncture in which the country finds itself: “With Covid-19 and the war in Ukraine I think we could not ask for more, especially concerning the facilities in favor of the most vulnerable in society.”

Jonathan Bécherel congratulates the Minister of Finance for his budgetary measures in favor of green energy: “The effort is very commendable. Renewable energy is the future and the Minister of Finance is right to focus on it, especially when it comes to electric cars. The new measures will certainly encourage Mauritians to turn to electric cars.”

Dean Rungen – another social worker – was expecting to see more alternatives to the current education system: “I was expecting more creative centers to allow academically weak children to develop in other ways and then make a living from their art. It’s sad that nothing has been done in this sense. Ditto for sustainable measures to eliminate both poverty and other scourges in our society.”
