Braving Bad Weather: Long Queues Formed At Vaccination Centres

Must Read

Long queues formed at vaccination centres on Tuesday as hundreds of people rushed to get COVID booster shots in view of the new measure of the government. At the last count on 11 January, 218,516 people had received their third/booster dose. Those, who brave the bad weather, are at least 12 years old. Vaccination centres are offering Pfizer in first and third doses as well.

Since the government announced new measures effective as from January 15 and is offering the Pfizer booster dose for those 40 years and older, the interest has been growing. Even the warning of heavy showers does not discourage them. For one thing, they see Pfizer as the saviour against the variants. The teenagers have no other choice. Then, the population is worried about not being able to access public and commercial places without the new status of Fully Vaccinated considered after the third dose inoculation. Others were there to be able to keep their jobs!

Motivated certainly, but the fact remains that the complaints are multiple, diverse and varied against the Ministry of Health by those over 40 years old but also the 12 to 17 years old. There were several hundred of them lining up in front of the vaccination centres, armed with their umbrellas and mackintoshes. But especially at the James Burty David Gymnasium in Curepipe, in the courtyard of the Plaza in Rose Hill and at the vaccination centre in Rivière-des-Anguilles where there were intermittent showers of heavy rain. Even though the Ministry of Health was well aware of this situation, no provision has been made to keep vaccine recipients safe. In some places, the distance could not even be respected. In all the vaccination centers and there was inevitable disorder.
