To mark the commemoration of the 189th anniversary of the abolition of slavery on February 1, the Komite Diosezin Premie Fevriye has organized several activities around the theme “Le Morne, Rasinn Nou lidantite”. This Wednesday, January 31, starting at 6:30pm, a programme will be held at the Community Centre du Morne.; It includes a torchlight walk, campfire, songs and testimonials from the elders. Then, on February 1, from 6.30am to 8.15am, a pilgrimage will take place from Trou Chenilles to the Chapelle Stella Maris in Le Morne village, where mass will be celebrated at 8.30am. The celebration will be presided over by Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône.
Under the theme “recognition, justice and development”, this Decade offers an operational framework to encourage States to eradicate the social injustices inherited from history, and to combat the racism, prejudice and racial discrimination to which people of African descent are still subjected.
