On Wednesday, in Port-Louis, Bank One launched the only universal digital payment solution in Mauritius. Dubbed ‘Pop’, it is considered a first in the local banking sector. This announcement comes just days after the official launch of MauCAS by the Bank of Mauritius.
MauCAS aims to make e-commerce, banking and mobile payments interoperable.
The launch of Pop is considered a major technological breakthrough in the field of digital payments, which are now accessible and affordable via a smartphone for anyone with a bank account in Mauritius.
Available on App Store and Google Play Store, Pop offers an exceptional customer experience In just a few steps, users will be able to connect their bank accounts to Pop and make instant payments between banks, share bills or pay merchants using a QR code or phone number. They will also receive rewards for inviting friends and family to use Pop. They will earn loyalty points when they pay with Pop at approved merchants.
According to Mark Watkinson, CEO of Bank One, Pop was born out of a desire to make financial services more accessible in Mauritius for merchants and customers in a simple and affordable way, regardless of their bank/s. “I think Pop lays the foundation to make Mauritius a cashless society using the MauCAS network and a set of rules, which will be adopted by all operators. With Pop, Bank One wants to position itself as a key player in digital financial services in Mauritius. We are convinced that in the near future, digital will be omnipresent in our lives, and the strategy of companies will be focused on the customer and his needs. Bank One is proud to be the very first bank to launch such an initiative’, he says.
For Bhavya Shah, Head of Personal Financial Services, the launch of Pop is a milestone for Bank One and a significant achievement for its teams and partners.
“Instant person-to-person and merchant transfers are now a reality in Mauritius! Our goal is to become the first “financial supermarket” in Mauritius and to offer enriched digital financial solutions to our customers through de Pop with the support of our partners. We have a very exciting roadmap with new features such as loans, insurance and savings accounts. Customers can expect to hear more about Pop in the coming months,” he said.
Merchants, meanwhile, will be able to manage their transactions in real time and offer a universal digital payment solution to their customers at a fraction of the cost they would normally pay without any capital investment.
To offer a complete solution to merchants, Bank One has partnered with MiPS, a platform that provides innovative payment solutions to merchants.
