Prisca Manikion, specialist in race walking, gold medalist in 5000 m walk during the last Islands Games, Prisca Manikion is already on track to defend her title.
Last Sunday, during the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes championships where she took the fourth place overall but the second of her category (masters). She was credited with a time of 27’54”52 while the qualifying minimum for the 2023 IOC is 28’00”00. Moreover, such a performance makes her eligible to access the list of scholarship holders of the High Level Sports Unit.
“I’m super happy. I didn’t expect to run this time. Now that I have achieved the minimum for the 2023 IOC I can continue to work hard to improve further. I also hope that I will get a high level scholarship because the time required to get in is 29’00”00″, she said.
For her next competition, Prisca Manikion aims high. “I’m going to do everything I can to get under 27 minutes in my next competition,” she said.
As for Sonia Soodon who was also at the start of this race she took the eleventh place in 3’20”69.
