Dev Chooramun has dedicated 40 years of his life to his art. He marked the event with a retrospective exhibition that took place from September 9 to 18 at the Galerie du Génie – Port-Louis. The artist continues to make his way and is preparing an umpteenth solo exhibition for next year.
He has known difficult moments. But he held on. Fortunately, otherwise he would not have had this exceptional career of which he is proud: “When I began to paint in 1980 I did not sell any paintings. But I didn’t give up. On the contrary, I worked even harder to develop my own style using flowers and vegetables. It was precisely through this style that I became known and started selling my paintings.”
In 40 years, the artist has also adapted his themes: “I went from a philosophical inspiration, to erotic paintings and today I am much more interested in characters. But the technique remains the same. That is, flowers and vegetables continue to be part of my paintings.”
Moreover, Dev does not intend to stop there, and for good reason, he is preparing another solo exhibition for next year: “Nature will once again be the theme of the exhibition. It will most likely be held between March or April 2023.”
