Must Read

There have been brewing rumors of Tom Cruise bidding farewell to the two-decade-old successful Mission Impossible franchise. Tom Cruise, who plays the character Ethan Hunt, is said to step away from the franchise after two upcoming films- Dead Reckoning 1&2. But the director, Christopher McQuarrie claims the rumours to be deceitful.

McQuarrie has been working with Tom Cruise for 15 years on the franchise and has read many such rumours about Cruise which turn out to be false. The director added after reading this brewing rumour, he called the actor, who also read the article and claimed that what is being said is 100% false.

McQuarrie said that the crew has already begun shooting in Birmingham when the article regarding this event was published. Variety reported that the two upcoming films of the Mission Impossible franchise are meant to adieu to Tom’s character, Ethan Hunt.

“Let me tell you, I’ve been working with Tom Cruise for 15 years and I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been standing next to the man, witnessed an event, and then read about it in the trades the next day and none of what they describe is true”, director McQuarrie commented on these when asked on the Light the Fuse podcast.

Christopher McQuarrie further said, “when you read articles in the trades, just put the imaginary word in front of the headline: ‘The Agenda Is….’ When you read ‘anonymous sources’ or ‘source close to the production say,’ that’s somebody putting it out there for a specific reason. That’s someone wanting others to think that for a specific reason, and you can never know for sure what those reasons are. You learn to ignore it and laugh at it. In today’s world, you wait 17 minutes and another news cycle will sweep it away.”

The first film of the Mission Impossible series was released in 1996 was a gigantic success and established Tom Cruise’s iconic character, Ethan Hunt. Within two decades, the six films that were released collectively earned $3.5 billion at the box office globally. The two upcoming films: Dead Reckoning 1&2 are designated to release in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

Along with Tom Cruise, the cast of Dead Reckoning Part One includes Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Rebecca Ferguson, Pom Klementieff, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Henry Czerny, and Cary Elwes. This film is scheduled to release on July 14, 2023.
