His Excellency Archbishop Tomasz Grysa, the new Apostolic Nuncio to Mauritius, will be in Mauritius from April 23 to 29, 2023 to present his credentials to the Mauritian authorities. From April 26 to 28, he will travel to Rodrigues to meet with the Christian community there.

On March 21, 2023, Archbishop Tomasz Grysa received his appointment as Apostolic Nuncio to Mauritius from Pope Francis. The Apostolic Nuncio, who is a Vatican diplomat, notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mauritius of his appointment. As is the procedure, it is up to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to propose a date for the presentation of his credentials to the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister. Thus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proposed to Archbishop Tomasz Grysa the date of April 24, 2023.

An Apostolic Nuncio is the representative of the Holy See in the region. Archbishop Grysa was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar on September 27, 2022 and to the Seychelles on February 9, 2023 and Apostolic Delegate to the Comoros, with the functions of Apostolic Delegate to Reunion.

Bishop Tomasz Grysa was born in Poznań, Poland, on October 16, 1970. He was ordained a priest on May 25, 1995 for the Archdiocese of Poznań.

He obtained the doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University, completing, at the same time, the courses in diplomacy at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, in Rome.

He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See on July 1, 2001 and has worked in the following Pontifical Representations:

  • 2001-2003: Representation of the Holy See in Russia;
  • 2003-2008: Apostolic Nunciature in India and Nepal;
  • 2008-2011: Apostolic Nunciature in Belgium and Luxembourg;
  • 2011-2013: Apostolic Nunciature in Mexico;
  • 2013-2016: Apostolic Nunciature in Brazil;
  • 2016-2019: Permanent Mission of the Holy See to the UN in New York;
  • 2019-2022: Apostolic Delegation to Jerusalem and Palestine and Apostolic Nunciature to Israel and Cyprus.

In addition to his native Polish, Archbishop Grysa speaks French, English, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
