Ameenah Gurib-Fakim’s application to the King’s Privy Council to appeal the Supreme Court’s ruling rejecting her challenge to the report of the commission of enquiry chaired by former chief justice Asraf Caunhye was called into court on Monday. Representatives of the members of the Commission of Inquiry and the Attorney General filed a counter-affidavit. The case has therefore been adjourned until 18 September.
The State, represented by the Chief State Attorney, Verna Nirsimloo, is opposing the former President’s case.
The other defendants, notably the Attorney General and the members of the commission of enquiry, have also objected.
On 25 July, the Supreme Court rejected Ameenah Gurib-Fakim’s application to challenge the conclusions of the report of the Commission of Inquiry.
