Richarno Colin and Merven Clair have performed very well at the African Championships held in Mozambique. On Thursday evening, both boxers qualified for the finals which will be held this Saturday at the Pavilhao de Academica.
Merven Clair, who obtained his qualification by split decision after a well discussed fight against Algerian Youcef Islam Yaiche, will face Moroccan Hamza Barbari in the final.
Richarno Colin had an excellent fight and knocked out his Guinean opponent Alseny Conte. He will face Algerian Yahia Abdelli in the 63.5kg final. In the semi-final, Richarno Colin was very comfortable and from the beginning he imposed his rhythm. And in the middle of the first round, Alseny Conte tried to attack him, the Mauritian did not panic, he dodged and retaliated with a powerful left hook at 1 minute and 41 seconds from the end of the first round. He knocked his opponent to the mat and this forced the referee to end the fight.
Richarno Colin, very satisfied with his performance, said: “After the two fights I have had, I feel good. I’m really into the competition,” he said. Recall that this is his second final at the African Championships after that of 2011 in Cameroon. He says: “I will give 100% against the Algerian. I remain very focused. In addition, I thank the DTN Roberto Ibanez Chavez who follows me from Mauritius. It is with him and Richard Sunee who accompanies me that we set up the strategies of combat. The Algerian Yahia Abdelli also won his fight before the limit. His confrontation with the gold medallist of the 2019 African Games, Abdelhaq Nadir, was stopped by the referee at the end of the first round.
