Activities Organised In The Context Of African World Heritage Day

Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund (LMHTF), under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with the National Heritage Fund, organised, yesterday, a sensitisation and educational tour on the theme “Heritage Changes” for students of Grade 5 and 6 of Le Morne Government School, at Le Morne Cultural Landscape.

This one-day activity was held to commemorate the African World Heritage Day, celebrated annually on 05 May to give people around the world, in particular Africans, the opportunity to celebrate the Continent’s unique cultural and natural heritage.

Educational tour on African World Heritage Day

The Parliamentary Private Secretary Mr Nand Prakash Ramchurrun, and Member of Parliament, Mrs Marie Sandra Monia Mayotte, as well as a delegation comprising ten Members of Parliament and two members of staff of the Parliamentary Committee on Media, Information and Communication Technologies from Zambia who are actually undertaking a benchmarking tour to Mauritius, were present on the occasion.

Educational tour on African World Heritage Day

In addition to the educational tour, a tree planting ceremony was also held at the International Slave Route Monument with the objective to educate the students present on the importance of trees in mitigating the effects of climate change.
