A 33-year-old accountant living in the village of Trou aux Biches made a statement at the Trou-Fanfaron police station late on Friday afternoon, June 23, concerning four cheques totalling Rs 1,600,000 that had apparently been mislaid or fallen into the capital.
He made this statement at around 2 p.m. on Friday. He explained that these cheques, one from Bank One in the amount of Rs 300,000, another from the State Bank of Mauritius in the amount of 700,000, another from the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) in the amount of Rs 250,000 and the fourth from the MCB in the amount of 350,000, had either been mislaid or fallen over on the way from rue Dauphine to rue Farquhar, Port-Louis on Tuesday May 30 at around 3 pm.
He pointed out that these cheques had not yet been endorsed by the companies concerned at the banks.
