Accident In Beau-Vallon: One-Year-Old Baby Hit By Car Windscreen

The scene on the Route Royale in Beau-Vallon was horrific late in the afternoon of Tuesday 7 June. A one-year-old girl was thrown through the windscreen of a car after it was hit head-on by a bus. The baby was in her mother’s arms in the front seat of the vehicle at the time of the accident. His sister, aged 5, was in the back seat of the car driven by the father. The condition of the injured is considered to be stable.

The accident occurred at around 3.20pm on the main road in Beau-Vallon. A single bus and a blue Suzuki car collided. The bus was heading towards Plaine-Magnien while the car was heading towards Mahébourg. At one point, the car veered off the road and hit the bus head-on, and the impact was of rare violence. The one-year-old girl, who was in her mother’s arms in the front seat of the car, was thrown from the vehicle.

The front of the car was completely crushed. Passengers in the bus immediately got off the bus and witnessed a horrific scene.  A baby lay flat on the side of the road. The child was crying and had a wound on the back of his head.

His 35-year-old father, who lives in the Atlea City, Forest-Side, was reportedly asleep at the wheel. The mother, her two daughters and her partner were taken in an Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Jawaharlall Nehru Hospital in Rose-Belle. The driver of the car and the driver of the bus, a 55-year-old man from Rose-Belle, were given a breath test, which was found to be negative.

An investigation has been initiated at the Blue-Bay Police Station to find out the exact circumstances of the accident.
