Must Read

A raid on a couple’s home in Upper Vale by an officer of the Child Development Unit of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare revealed that a twenty-month-old girl was being abused by her parents. The child had injuries to her head and face. After being taken to the hospital for treatment, the girl was subsequently placed at the Oiseau du Paradis center in Cap-Malheureux after the CDU obtained an Emergency Protection Order (EPO) from the Pamplemousses court. The police of Plaine des Papayes initiated an investigation on this case.

It was in the late afternoon of Tuesday, September 21, that a police officer from the Plaine des Papayes police station reported the case on behalf of a CDU employee. She reported a request made by a medical social worker on Wednesday, August 25, concerning a twenty-month-old granddaughter who was being abused by her parents.

The girl had injuries to her head and face and was admitted to the North Hospital. On Thursday, August 26, the CDU applied for and obtained a COOL the same day. The CDU obtained custody of the girl and placed her at the Oiseau du Paradis in Cap-Malheureux.

As for her parents, they are under police investigation at the level of the police station of Plaine des Papayes under a charge of child abuse.
