A Heavy Rain Warning Is In Effect In Mauritius Until Tomorrow Morning At 04:30, No School This Monday

Must Read

The heavy rainfall warning has been removed at 04:30. However, a heavy rain watch is in effect in Mauritius until tomorrow morning at 04:30.

The air mass over our region remains very humid and unstable, which is very favorable for the formation of active clouds over the island in the afternoon.

The sky will be cloudy over the whole island this morning with showers that will be moderate at times. Pockets of fog are also expected in some areas. In the afternoon, active clouds will develop in the north, northeast and part of the central plateau with localized showers that will be moderate at times and accompanied by thunderstorms. These showers could be heavy at times.

The maximum temperature will be between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius over the central plateau and between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius over the coast.

Localized showers are still expected in the evening in the north and northeast. During the night, clouds coming from the south will cause showers across the island. These showers will be temporarily moderate.

The minimum temperature will be between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius in the central plateau and between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius in the coastal areas.

Light and variable wind early this morning, blowing from the south at about 15 km/h during the day.

Heavy seas with southwest swells in the order of 2.5 meters over the reefs, gradually improving during the day. We advise against going out on the high seas this morning.

In case of heavy thundery showers in the afternoon, the public is advised to

  1. Stay under cover and avoid the plains, hiking, going out to sea and not taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
  2. Avoid areas subject to water accumulation, the edges of rivers and other watercourses that are in flood, as well as mountainous slopes subject to landslides.
  3. Be very careful on the roads due to reduced visibility caused by heavy rain and fog.

Thus, the Ministry of Education wishes to inform the public that there will be no classes in pre-primary, primary, secondary schools, MITD technical training centers, polytechnics and universities.

Head teachers and non-teaching staff are to visit their respective schools/centers for an assessment.
