An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (Samu) was requested at the women’s dormitory of the Compagnie Mauricienne de Textile (CMT) in the industrial zone of Phoenix on the evening of Sunday, November 26. This for a case of assault which had been committed there. A 37-year-old Bangladeshi woman was stabbed by one of her compatriots. This man was able to gain access to this dormitory with the complicity of another Bangladeshi woman who was staying there. The main suspect, MD Masad Rana, aged 30, was arrested by a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Phoenix on the afternoon of Monday, December 11. His accomplice, Parveen Mena, aged 30, was arrested in the same attack. However, she was released on parole at the end of last week.
This case dates back to around 8:30 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, November 26. Police officers from the Phoenix police station were called to this dormitory following a request. Arriving at the scene, a security guard informed them that a Bangladeshi worker had been stabbed by one of her compatriots.
This security guard also told the police that it was another Bangladeshi who works for the CMT who had facilitated access to this dormitory in MD Masad Rana. She was arrested and placed in a cell at the Vacoas detention center. It was on the basis of certain information that the Phoenix CID police officers traced MD Masad Rana, a homeless person, and arrested him during the day of Monday, December 11. This suspect was placed in a cell at the Vacoas detention center.
This Tuesday, December 12, he was brought before the Curepipe court on a provisional charge of serious assault.
