India’s 75th Year Of Independence: Nandini Singla Reminds Mauritius’ Close Relationship With India

Flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence Day. Indian High Commissioner, Nandini Singla, during her speech highlighted the close relationship between our two countries and our trade relationship.

If August 15, 1947 marked the end of a 200-year reign of the British Colony where India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru heralded the Renaissance, “there comes a time, which seldom comes in history, when we move from the old to the new“. On August 15, 2022, at the Red Fort, the current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi pledged to lead the country to its transformation into a Developed Country. “The way the world sees India is changing. India represents hope and the reason lies in the skills of its 1.3 billion people,” said Narendra Modi. “India’s diversity is our strength. Being the mother of democracy gives India the inherent power to reach new heights.”

Nandini Singla At India’s 75th Year Of Independence

In Mauritius, the Indian High Commissioner, Nandini Singla, who read the President Droupadi Murmu’s speech, focused on India’s socio-economic development. Nandini Singla fueled her part by focusing on India’s strong ties with Mauritius. She especially dwelt on the choice of India to sign with Mauritius, an African country, the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA), which is an economic free trade agreement between Mauritius and India, in February 2021, which became operational as from April 1, 2021, aiming to consolidate trade but especially, trade relations between our two states. She did not fail to mention that bilateral trade between our two countries has increased by 69 % since 2021.

This official ceremony for the 75th anniversary bears the slogan “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav“. This ceremony was also marked by the raising of the Indian flag called the Tiranga, but also by the announcement of a series of cultural activities related to the 75th celebration of India’s Independence, all over Mauritius, starting with a series of events on the MBC channels as from this evening, Monday 15 August.
