The Covid 19 restrictions for Mauritius will be lifted in Russia on 09 April. On another note, Air Mauritius will resume commercial flights to Madagascar on Thursday 07 April while Emirates will offer two A380 flights per day between Dubai and Mauritius from 01 July 2022. According to the Orchestra Barometer for L’Echo Touristique, Mauritius has been ranked in the Top 20 destinations for travellers for March and the MTPA has launched a bold campaign in India called “Where Else But Mauritius“.

When Russia opens its arms

We are part of a list of 52 friendly countries that will have access to Russia as from 09 April. This statement dated 04 April by the Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishutin to the Russian news agency, TASS will be applied on regular and chartered flights. As the country is at war, tourism to Russia is not a first choice for Mauritians but we can count on a better flight from Russia. Other countries in this list are Argentina, Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Venezuela, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Israel, India, Indonesia, Kenya, China, North Korea, Costa Rica, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mozambique, Moldova, Mongolia, Myanmar, Namibia, Pakistan, Peru, Seychelles, Serbia, Thailand, Tanzania, Turkey, Uruguay, Fiji, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, South Africa and Jamaica.

Resumption of flights to Madagascar

Air Mauritius will resume its commercial flights to Madagascar as from Thursday 07 April. The national airline of Mauritius will operate 4 weekly commercial flights to Antananarivo on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with a take-off time set at 14:20 and landing in Antananarivo at 15:15. The flights from Antananarivo will be the return flights on the same days with a landing time of 7.45pm. Take-off from Antananarivo is at 17:00. The flights will be on board of the Airbus A350-900 and A330-900neo.

Mauritius in the Top 10 in France

The Orchestra Barometer for L’Echo Touristique places Mauritius among the top 20 destinations for travellers for the month of March. Mauritius is ranked 10th and is even ahead of the Maldives which is in 19th place. This destination barometer was based on sales made in French offline and online agencies.

A380 – double daily service in July

From 01 July, Emirates will offer two flights a day by A380 “to meet the increased demand for travel“, as stated in a company statement. Emirates is without competition on this route and currently operates one daily flight to Mauritius with its Boeing 777-300ER. With the increasing demand to Mauritius, it will increase to nine weekly flights between 09 April 2022 and the end of June 2022, and from July 2022, two daily flights aboard the Airbus A380, which consists of 4 first class suites, 76 fully reclining seats in business class and 426 seats in economy class. Departures are pre-scheduled at 2.35am and 10.05am to land at 9.10am and 4.40pm and flights from Mauritius at 4.35pm and 9.50pm to land in Dubai at 11.10pm and 4.25am the following day.

MTPA-Mauritius and nowhere else

The icing on the cake is the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority’s aggressive campaign to woo the Indian market. Entitled “Where Else But Mauritius“, the campaign focuses not only on the exploration of the flora and fauna, but above all, on the gastronomy, the safety which is the new luxury, the prestigious hotels… everything that can characterize Mauritius as the choice par excellence for a change of scenery, holidays, celebrations, romance, adventure, diverse cultures and as The Ideal Spot for film productions. The campaign was launched in Mumbai on Friday 25 March by Arvind Bundhun, the Director of the MTPA. Through videos and visuals, he showcased at a ceremony for the targets, comprising of influential celebrities, media, travel agents, wedding planners and film producers, among others, the unique destination to choose from!

The hoteliers’ wish to reach one million tourists by the end of 2022 seems achievable!
