8 LPM Leaders Released On Bail

Must Read

Following their demonstration this morning in front of the Central Barracks, 8 members of Linion Pep Morisien have been arrested. The police consider that the number of demonstrators makes the rally illegal. Those arrested are Raouf Khodabaccus, Jean Claude Barbier, Ivor Tan Yan, Niyamadkhan Jamalkhan, Neena Ramdenee, Kader Hossenbaccus, Christian Bernard and Zila Khodabux.

The 8 leaders and members of Linion Pep Morisien were presented in court in Port Louis on Friday, a few hours after their arrest. Raouf Khodabaccus, Jean Claude Barbier, Ivor Tan Yan, Niyamadkhan Jamalkhan, Neena Ramdenee, Kader Hossenbaccus, Christian Bernard and Zila Khodabux were provisionally charged for taking part in an unlawful assembly. They have been released on non-monetary bail. This means that they will only have to pay the costs of the cases. It will be recalled that the panel of lawyers for LPM members and leaders filed a first motion for the release of the suspects on bail. A second motion has been filed. It concerns the removal of the interim charge. The magistrate has set the next hearing on the motion to strike the provisional charge for 24 March. The DPP’s office will make its position known on that day.
