46-Year-Old Fisherman Lost At Sea

Rameshwarnath Jharee, a 46-year-old fisherman, met a tragic end during a fishing trip in Poste de Flacq early Friday morning, March 17. The resident of this coastal village had gone on a fishing trip with two other fishermen from this locality when he perished at sea. The three men were diving in the lagoon when at some point Rameshwarnath Jharee was nowhere to be found. His body was found floating in the water shortly after.

It was around 06:00 on Thursday morning, March 17, that Rameshwarnath Jharee, also known as Bouzou, boarded a boat with Ritesh Diloo, 30, and Rajiv Poorun, 39. The three men were engaged in underwater fishing. At some point, Ritesh Diloo and Rajiv Poorun lost sight of Rameshwarnath Jharee. They searched for him for quite some time, but without success.

At around 7:30 a.m., his lifeless body was discovered floating in the lagoon. They transported him to the Flacq Post landing near the Shiv Sagar mandir. After the alarm was raised, an ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service soon arrived on the scene. The doctor on board unfortunately pronounced Rameshwarnath Jharee dead.

His body was transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the death to asphyxiation due to drowning.

An investigation has been opened to shed light on the exact circumstances of this tragedy. The funeral of Rameshwarnath Jharee took place at 12 noon on Saturday 18 March. He was cremated at L’Aventure.
