A most daring robbery, which was committed against a couple living in Eau-Coulée where gold jewellery worth Rs 940,000 was taken, has been cracked in less than 24 hours. A joint operation by the Field Intelligence Office (FIO) and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Curepipe led to the arrest of Louis Jordan Danilo Richardson, 22, of Cité Maherbes, Curepipe. Part of the stolen goods were recovered.

It was in the late afternoon of Monday 21 November that a 62 year old woman reported a case of theft from her home. In her complaint, the 60-year-old woman explained that between 8.30am and 12.30pm on Monday 21 November, in the absence of her husband, her children and herself, a theft was committed at their home. A box with gold jewellery, which was on a table in the living room, and a box containing coins totalling Rs 60,000 were stolen.

Field work by FIO Inspector Dwarka and CID Chief Inspector Nundoo, under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Sailesh Kumar Omrawoo, led to the arrest of Jordan Richardson at around 6 pm on Tuesday, November 22. The latter was subjected to a close interrogation and was quick to confess his guilt. He said he climbed through a window to get inside the house.

Some of the stolen goods were recovered during a search of the suspect’s home. Jordan Richardson was arraigned in Curepipe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning, November 23. He was then taken to the Vacoas detention centre.
