To date, the number of deaths on our roads since the beginning of this year is eight.

It was around 9 am this Thursday, January 26. It was raining heavily when Hussein Jafferally, coming from Labourdonnais Street, was driving at high speed on his red New Way motorcycle. The teenager, who was a kebab vendor at a business on La Chaussée Street, Port-Louis, started to cross Pope Hennessy Street towards L’Eglise Street, when he hit a glass panel on the right side of the bus. The bus was travelling towards the Champ de Mars. The impact was so severe that the window panel of the bus became the shape of the helmet. Hussein Jafferally was then thrown onto the asphalt.

Seriously injured, the young man was evacuated to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis on board an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service. With a life-threatening condition, Hussein Jafferally was admitted to a ward in the intensive care unit.

The images of this road accident were captured by safecity cameras. The driver of this bus explained that the motorcyclist abruptly exited Labourdonnais Street and collided head-on with a glass panel on the right side of this bus. According to police officers from the Pope Hennessy Police Station, the young motorcyclist should not have continued straight ahead, but should have turned left and headed towards Pope Hennessy Street.
