17-Year-Old Boy Died In Motorcycle Accident

After three days spent in a coma, Hussein Jafferally, 17 years old and living on Mamelon Vert Street, Vallée Pitot breathed his last on Sunday evening, January 29. The young kebab vendor was driving a motorcycle on the morning of Thursday, January 26, when it collided head-on with a bus of the Corporation National de Transport (CNT) at the intersection of Labourdonnais and Pope Hennessy streets in Port-Louis. To date, the number of deaths on our roads since the beginning of this year is eight.

It was around 9 am this Thursday, January 26. It was raining heavily when Hussein Jafferally, coming from Labourdonnais Street, was driving at high speed on his red New Way motorcycle. The teenager, who was a kebab vendor at a business on La Chaussée Street, Port-Louis, started to cross Pope Hennessy Street towards L’Eglise Street, when he hit a glass panel on the right side of the bus. The bus was travelling towards the Champ de Mars. The impact was so severe that the window panel of the bus became the shape of the helmet. Hussein Jafferally was then thrown onto the asphalt.

Seriously injured, the young man was evacuated to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis on board an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service. With a life-threatening condition, Hussein Jafferally was admitted to a ward in the intensive care unit.

The images of this road accident were captured by safecity cameras. The driver of this bus explained that the motorcyclist abruptly exited Labourdonnais Street and collided head-on with a glass panel on the right side of this bus. According to police officers from the Pope Hennessy Police Station, the young motorcyclist should not have continued straight ahead, but should have turned left and headed towards Pope Hennessy Street.

Hussein Jafferally died at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Sunday evening, January 29. His body was later transferred to the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The autopsy was performed by Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Midical Officer who attributed the death to multiple injuries.

During the day of Monday, January 30, the driver of this bus, who was arrested on a charge of manslaughter participated in a reconstruction of the facts. He was later presented before the Port-Louis court on a provisional charge of manslaughter.

The funeral of Hussein Jafferally took place this Monday, January 30 at 3 pm. After the funeral prayer at the Majid Abu Bakr Siddique of Vallée Pitot, he was then buried at the Bois Marchand cemetery in Terre-Rouge.
